Abstract:

Subjects of photographs include the Nichols and Kellogg family, including some of Herman Drew Nichols; the Hiram Tubbs family mansion and Tubbs Hotel in Oakland; early automobiles; art restorer Adolf Werbick; Oakland poet Joaquin Miller; the 1906 San Francisco earthquake and fire; a panoramic image of downtown Oakland taken ca. 1879; and other miscellaneous topics. Real photograph postcards depict various subjects, including ships, shipwrecks, ship building, bridges, and scenes in San Francisco and Yosemite. Also includes pictorial stationery pertaining to San Francisco; fine art etchings and other prints depicting scenes in San Francisco, Berkeley and other California locations by artists Harriet Roudebush, Isvan Bunyati, M. Van Doorn, and L.N. Scammon; a Charles Koppel lithograph depicting Benicia; and two wax seals from Paestum depicting a Greek or Roman female bust.
